AROUND THE WEB:

‘™¦ According to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Bobcats coach Paul Silas shoved forward Tyrus Thomas after a postgame screaming match Sunday night, sparked by Thomas’ friendly chatter with Celtics players.

Silas, the 68-year-old former Celtic, reportedly chastised Thomas for his fraternization with the C’s, and Thomas yelled back at Silas. When Thomas stood up, Silas pushed him toward his locker before players stepped in to break up the altercation.

‘€œSilas hates losing to the Celtics, and Paul was even angrier that he thought [Thomas] was acting buddy-buddy with some of their guys,’€ a source told Yahoo! ‘€œThat’€™s what got it going. But Paul was yelling at him over his salary, over what they have left to pay him. But it started with him saying, hey, he could live with the losing, but you’€™re going to be buddy-buddy as they’€™re beating your [butt] too?’€

Both men reportedly were fined by the team.

“There was an incident,” Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins confirmed. “We handled it internally and talked to both the player and the coach and moved on. End of story.”

‘™¦ Yankees fans showed their displeasure with outfielder Andruw Joneslack of hustle in Wednesday night’s 6-5 loss to the Twins. Jones lazily chased after Alexi Casilla‘s double to left field in the eighth inning and then, failing to realize that Casilla had stumbled out of the batter’s box, lobbed the ball into third base instead of attempting to get Casilla at second.

“I didn’t see him fall down, so I thought is was an automatic double,” said Jones, who is likely to get more playing time now that Brett Gardner is on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right elbow. “It was no big deal. The guy didn’t score, right?”

Jones heard some boos when he was up in the bottom of the inning, and then he was booed some more when he slipped chasing a ball in the ninth.

‘™¦ Legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summit announced Wednesday that she is stepping down as coach and will be replaced by longtime assistant Holly Warlick. Summit, who revealed last year that she has early-onset dementia, will become head coach emeritus and report to Warlick.

“I’ve loved being the head coach at Tennessee for 38 years, but I recognize that the time has come to move into the future and to step into a new role,” Summit, 59, said in a school-issued statement.

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA: On April 19, 1969, the Red Sox traded which 1968 All-Star to the Indians?

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “It’s ludicrous. It’s ridiculous. There’s always going to be emotions in games, and there’s things that are happening. Like I said [after Game 3], there was three cross-checks. They penalized one and they suspended one. We’re not whining about the refs and we need to win the series and what’s going on here. That’s where are focus is on. That’s what it should be.”  — Bruins coach Claude Julien, responding to an accusation by Capitals coach Dale Hunter that the Bruins are targeting the head of Nicklas Backstrom

STAT OF THE DAY: 14 — Assists for Paul Pierce in Wednesday’s Celtics win over the Magic, a career high as he handled the ball much of the game with Rajon Rondo sitting out

‘NET RESULTS: Following the Heat’s victory over the Knicks in New York on Sunday, Dwyane Wade headed over to a nearby park and joined in a pickup game with some kids.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Ken Harrelson

SOOTHING SOUNDS: Turtles co-founder Mark “Flo” Volman (in white shirt) turns 65 Thursday.
